Summer: In Summer market has a new energy. The aisles are full of people: locals, families, kids, and now eco-tourists. The stalls are overflowing with the riches of the season. It’s often a two trip to the car day for me to unload my bounty. I can’t help myself. I’m a market junky. I buy crates of tomatoes, blueberries and peaches to freeze for winter. I don’t make jams myself but I can’t walk by a crate of ripe bruised peaches marked “discounted, perfect for canning” without being transported to the kitchen of my childhood. I can still smell the scents of my mom canning jams late at night to avoid the heat of the day.
