Winter: I can tell what time of year it is by the weight of my market basket. In winter my basket is heavy, laden with, turnips, beets and crucifers. If we are lucky during the winter months, it rains, but market goes on rain or shine. Iām sometimes tempted to stay in bed, but am always rewarded with unexpected pleasures if I brave the elements and make the effort. There are fewer vendors and fewer crops. That is the beauty of it, things are only available in their season. The market invites you to try new veggies, new tastes, to cook in a different way. Everyone is chatty, the vendors have time to talk and wander the market, checking in with friends and bartering goods, or just giving someone a break to get a cup of coffee.
